Domestic passenger car sales jumped 28 per cent in April to 42,506 units from 33,195 units in the same month last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Wednesday.\n\n\n\n
The country's largest auto company reported a total sales of 75,775 units across its various international operations, which include Tata Motors, Tata Daewoo and the Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles, Tata passenger vehicles and the British marquee brands Jaguar Land Rover.
Shares of auto component major, Samvardhana Motherson International, has gained 11.5 per cent on the bourses after the company approved the qualified institutions placement (QIP) issue and announced the calculation methodology for its compulsorily convertible debentures, or CCDs, into equity shares. Analysts cite strong investor response to the issue that has kept the sentiment positive for the stock. Brokerages, however, have a mixed view on the outlook for the auto parts supplier.

According to the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, motorcycle sales in the country during the month was up by 21.91 per cent at 4,57,178 units as against 3,75,004 units a year-ago. Total two-wheeler sales in July jumped by 19.47 per cent at 5,99,369 units compared to 5,01,691 units in the same month last year.
In the two wheeler segment, TVS Motor Company reported a 24 per cent increase in total sales at 304,795 units in April.
This is the third consecutive monthly slide.

Tata Motors on Friday reported an 84 per cent jump in its global sales at 74,707 units for December 2008, compared to the corresponding month in 2008. The company also posted 137 per cent surge in the sale of its commercial vehicles at 37,326 units in December 2009, it said in a statement. During the month under review, it sold 16,247 units of passenger vehicles, up by 53 per cent, against the same month previous year, it added.

Tata Motors on Tuesday said its electric vehicle arm has reduced prices of two models -- Nexon.ev and Tiago.ev -- by up to Rs 1.2 lakh on account of reduction in battery cost. The auto major has cut the price of Nexon.ev by up to Rs 1.2 lakh and now the model price starts at Rs 14.49 lakh. Similarly, the company has reduced the prices of Tiago.ev by up to Rs 70,000 with the base model now starting at Rs 7.99 lakh, Tata Motors said in a statement.

The Indian economy is likely to post better than anticipated growth in the second quarter (July-September) owing to robust urban consumption and expansion in services, a Business Standard analysis of high-frequency indicators showed. While gross domestic product growth in the September quarter is expected to come below the 7.8 per cent print in the June quarter due to a favourable base fading, analysts say the print will be much closer to 7 per cent than the 6.5 per cent anticipated earlier. While the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had estimated 6.5 per cent growth for July-September, last month Governor Shaktikanta Das said the growth figure would surprise on the upside.
